Cycling adventures in the idyllic countryside of Småland on winding gravel roads

Choose between short rides at your own pace and long, tough gravel challenges.

Exercise and nature experiences by bike

The cycling adventures at Fredensborg Manor – in the middle of one of Småland's most bike-friendly and scenic areas – start right below the manor steps.

Choose a route along winding gravel roads that take you across rolling meadows and vast fields, through deep forests, along lakes and past small forest ponds. Now and then you will pass a village, a farm or a little red cottage by a lake or in a forest glade.

Cycling adventures for everyone – from short rides at your own pace to long and challenging gravel rides

It doesn't matter if you want to take a short ride at a leisurely pace or challenge yourself with a really tough gravel ride from early morning until sunset. There is a network of gravel roads here to suit everyone – winding gravel roads that were once hiking trails and were widened over time for horses and carriages after much hard work by Småland farmers, crofters, and soldiers.

Explore at your own pace with spontaneous stops along the way

You cycle at your own pace. Stop at a lake for a refreshing dip. You absentmindedly count the stones in one of the thousands of Småland stone fences as you slowly roll past, but quickly lose count.

Perhaps you’ll stop to catch your breath once you reach the top of a hill before rolling on to enjoy a coffee break or lunch in Bullerbyn, or maybe you’ll stop in the farming village of Ingebo to meet all the animals at the open KRAV farm, Ingebo Hagar. With renewed energy, you’ll reach Astrid Lindgren’s World in less than an hour from Ingebo via Knabbarp, Lake Knabbarpe, and Skillingarum.

When the goal of today's cycling adventure is to enjoy the Småland countryside without any "café stops," the picnic basket from Fredensborg comes in handy on a forest hill or by the lake.

Lean back after your coffee break and close your eyes for a moment. Listen to the rustling of the treetops or the lapping of the waves and just doze off for a while before cycling on through the idyllic countryside of Småland and finally arriving back home in Fredensborg.

Real gravel cycling – challenge yourself from early morning until sunset

Take yourself and your gravel bike on a real challenge – mile after mile through varied and beautiful countryside. Choose the really tough climbs up to Gåskullen and Faggemåla. Catch your breath for a moment as you roll down to Silverdalen and Lönneberga and on to Mariannelund.

From Mariannelund, you can cycle on to more classic locations, such as Emil and Ida's Katthult, Norra Kvill National Park, and Ösjöfors Handpappersbrukmostly on gravel roads that wind through the Småland countryside.

The gravel roads become more numerous and the views from the saddle change as your pulse rises and beads of sweat begin to drip onto the handlebars – real gravel cycling, gravel tours that demand a little more. Lönneberga Gravel, for example, suggests routes from around 75 km to 165 km and longer, with changing terrain and varied nature experiences.
