Fredensborg offers a wide range of engaging, exciting, and challenging activities. Here you will also find just as many memorable experiences that offer peace and quiet in solitude or in the company of good friends.
All activities on your own (not organized activities) are free for our guests. We also offer organized activities for conferences and larger groups.
Get active by the lake or just relax on the jetty
Take a short walk down to the lake. Ekbacken's ancient and lush guardians accompany you all the way to the lake cottage. In one of the reclining chairs on the jetty or in the lake cottage's cabin, you can simply be – gaze out over the lake and relax after a swim in Gissen's crystal-clear waters.
Try your luck at fishing
Pick up some fishing gear from the reception and try your luck at fishing from the jetty, in the narrow strait on the other side of Bockö, or even further away in one of the lake's forest bays. Boats and canoes are available to borrow (free of charge). In winter, when the ice is thick enough, ice fishing is an exciting experience.
Sjöbastu, wood-fired hot tub and ice bath
Enjoy a sauna or a warming autumn or spring bath in our wood-fired hot tub, and why not an ice bathon a starry winter evening in the light of the full moon? You will say goodbye to the day feeling more alive and harmonious than ever (the hot tub must be booked at least 2 days in advance).
Shallow sandy beaches
Right next to the jetty is a small shallow sandy beach for the little ones, and after a short walk along the winding path by the lake, Evabadet awaits with a sandy beach so shallow that it seems endless – an El Dorado for sandcastles, splashing around, and for children with lots of energy to burn.
Swimming, jumping, and playing for the little ones
The raft outside the jetty invites you to take a quick dip. After a short break, you can swim on to the jetty at Bockö with renewed energy. Children can splash and play on the jetty or on their very own raft with a mini diving tower and slide. Life jackets are available at Sjöstugan.
Row or paddle to Bockö
Bockö – our very own island with completely unspoiled nature – can be reached in five minutes by rowboat, canoe, or SUP board. Take a stroll around Bockö and become one with nature. On the way around the island, you will pass a cliff ledge where swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking will whet your appetite in the afternoon and evening sun.
Row or paddle around the lake
If you feel like a slightly longer expedition, you can row or paddle to the other side of Bockö and even further to one of the forest coves on the other side of the lake. Ask for a picnic basket at reception and, with a packed lunch on board, a row or paddle around the lake (approx. 8 km) becomes a real adventure.

Action, excitement, and fitness
There are tons of options here. Just pick and choose between tennis, padel, disc golf, and table tennis (also outdoors in the summer).
Peace and quiet in good company
Relax and enjoy yourselfin goodcompany. Play a game of giant chess in the manor park or try a round of mini golf on the lawn outside the lodge, or perhaps a game of boules or kubb on the old boules court by the bell tower. In Bullerbyn – our spacious social area – you can try your hand at billiards, darts, or table tennis.
Don't miss the legendary "ring" in the ancient oak tree, a relaxing pastime that the people of Fredensborg have enjoyed for over a hundred years.
Golf – first tee one iron shot from the manor house steps
A scenic, lakeside, and moderately challenging 18-hole park and forest course awaits you just below the manor house steps. You can also see the driving range and putting green from the manor house veranda, and the golf club pro (instructor) offers golf lessons and golf club rentals (including golf bags).
Lots of running around – the playground and playhouse await the little ones
Swings, climbing frames, slides, and a cozy little playhouse—here, the little ones romp, play, and make noise just like the children in Bullerbyn, and with Pippi in mind, the "no-bumping ground" track becomes an exciting adventure.
Walks, hikes, and bike rides
At Fredensborg, you are in the heart of Småland's idyllic countryside, where deep forests, rolling fields, sparkling lakes, and red cottages meet. Walk, hike, or cycle along winding paths and gravel roads. Take a short walk along the path by the lake, or hike or cycle around Gissen (approx. 8 km).
Guess around by bike or on foot
Climb Gisseskalle
Gisseskalle is a memorable destination for a bike ride or hike (approx. 9 km round trip) with breathtaking panoramic views of Gissen, Fredensborg, vast fields, and miles of forest.
The wings of history at Älgsfall
Hike or cycle toÄlgsfall (approx. 6 km round trip), one of many crofts in the forests around Fredensborg. At Älgsfall, old fruit trees and the remains of house foundations are reminders of the hard-working crofters of old. Älgsfall is especially beautiful when the fruit trees are in bloom or when the autumn leaves are ablaze with color.
Experience the tranquility of Torngölen
Hike or cycle toTorngölen (approx. 6 km round trip). Suddenly, you are enveloped by the feeling of nature, peace, and tranquility at a northern Swedish forest lake, even though you are no further from Fredensborg than if you turn around, take a few steps through the wilderness, and look to the southeast—where the manor house towers in the distance.
Sauna and mini gym
The hotel has a women's and a men's sauna. A warming activity after an autumn or winter walk and before dinner in the manor restaurant. Adjacent to the sauna is a mini gym with treadmills, among other things.
Skiing or skating and kick sledding on the lake
Right next to the manor house, there is a 5 km illuminated trail for walking, running, or cross-country skiing during snowy winters. During winters with little snow or just a light dusting of powder on the ground, the golf course's well-manicured fairways are ideal for those who want to go skiing.
For an extra memorable winter experience when the lake is frozen over, grab a kick sled and glide across the ice, or enjoy an exciting excursion on skates across the ice fields. IMPORTANT! Never go out on the ice without ice spikes! Ice spikes are available at reception.

Lennart Larsson and Kalle Sellbrink are popular troubadours and folk singers who accompany themselves on the guitar.
Both troubadours have extensive and solid experience in musical entertainment, and Lennart and Kalle have a song and their own accompaniment for every occasion and every request.
Guided fishing trips
Fredrik, at Starlings Fiske, has been fishing since childhood and is passionate about sharing his knowledge and experience. Since 2011, Fredrik has organized fishing competitions and guided fishing trips and courses for both beginners and avid big-game fishermen.
Fishing trips or fishing competitions with Fredrik can be booked on our lake Gissen or on any other lake in the surrounding area. Fredrik also organizes echo sounder courses. With the help of an echo sounder, you can, for example, find fish more easily, interpret the bottom structure, and better understand how fish behave in different environments and seasons.
Quiz – Jens with Entertainment
Jens Söderhäll is Vimmerby's foremost quiz organizer and does it with flying colors! Jens offers a wide variety and is happy to receive your requests for subject areas and question difficulty levels.
Activities in the surrounding area
Astrid Lindgren's World is, of course, something that attracts many people to our region, andAstrid's childhood home, Näs, is also something we highly recommend. You will find all this and much more in Vimmerby, just 10 kilometers from Fredensborg.
The filming locations forBarnen i Bullerbyn(The Children of Bullerbyn) andEmil i Lönneberga (Emil in Lönneberga) (Katthult)are also very close to Fredensborg. If you go to Katthult, you are also almost in Mariannelund, whereFilmbyn Smålandis located. From there, you can also take part in organized bike tours arranged byCykla i Filmlandskapet Småland.
Just outside Vimmerby isVirum Elk Park, where you can get up close to these mighty animals. For the brave, there is also Sweden's highest high ropes course, Vimmerby Adventure Park.
